the north star health collective (newly formed, http://www.northstarhealth.wordpress.com) is handling most of the local organizing for medics at the RNC. the website is pretty weak right now - we mostly communicate nationally via the convention-medical listserv and more locally through the northstar google group. if you'd like to be kept up to date let me know by emailing northstarhealth (at) gmail (dot) com

we've been meeting since the end of last year recruiting mostly locally and through the RNC Welcoming Committee (http://www.nornc.org) which I am a apart of. We've been on national medic conference calls with folks from both coasts and in between. we were at the last stategizing session hosted by the RNC-WC and have issued a reportback.

we're collecting supplies (we have a list if you're looking to donate) and looking for spaces - we're hoping to provide at least 2 spaces (one for wellness, one for trauma) however with downtown st. paul being the way it is we might end up with more spaces (2-3 trauma, still one wellness) but they'll be smaller. i'm still working on that.

the month of august we have space to provide trainings 7 days a week, in the evenings. we want to focus on training affinity medics by offering lots of basic street medic trainings but we also are providing street medical for medical professionals, herbal first aid, mental health/trauma (we're coordinating with the Icarus Project, http://theicarusproject.net, to bottom line some of this), and hopefully bring in some trainings on consent, sexual assault, safer-sex at actions . . . if you want to help offer a training we'd love to have the talent - our goal is to not only get folks ready for sept 1st but also facilitate the sharing of knowledge between national medics and our local scene. we both have much to offer and much to learn.

there is other stuff - we'd like to have a working body of knowledge re. tazers since we expect to see quite a few, we're trying to provide a place for aftercare either within the TC or at another location outside of the city . . .

and we're fundraising - so if you've got some money dogeared for medics in 2008 or a connection in a well-funded peace group, let me know . . .

that's the long and short of it - glad to see some RNC inquiry on this list. I'm always open for questions, suggestions, etc. If you're planning on coming to the Twin Cities this summer we'd love to have you.
